Propolis is a resinous substance that bees collect from tree buds or other botanical sources. It is used by bees to protect hives from undesirable microorganisms.
The properties of Propolis have been known since the time of ancient Egypt and its effectiveness found in thousands of years of traditional use.
Since the middle of the last century its properties-antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial, ...-were demonstrated by a very large number of scientific studies
Raw Propolis just collected from the hive is a "mixture" of unnecessary materials (resins and balsams, waxes, pollen, ...) and beneficial substances (flavonoids, minerals, group B vitamins, vitamin C and E).
Propolis is then purified to separate the active ingredients; the active part of propolis so purified consists of a dozen of flavanoidic compounds and aromatic substances
Purified propolis extract is practically insoluble in aqueous medium and therefore is poorly bioavailable.
In our R&D laboratories we carried out analytical studies, initially to identify the best starting extract ad then –after the SOL-MEX treatment- to verify both the maintenance of active components (over 20) and the improvement of the physico-chemical properties.
HPLC ANALYSIS AT TWO DIFFERENT WAVELENGTHS (360 AND 290 NM RESPECTIVELY) OF PROPOLIS EXTRACT BEFORE (UPPER CHROMATOGRAM) AND AFTER (LOWER CHROMATOGRAM) TREATMENT WITH ASOLTECH TECHNOLOGY: NO CHEMICAL CHANGES.
The application of technology SOL-MEX to extracts of propolis has improved solubility of approximately 50 times
Antibacterial activity was evaluated in collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Trieste
PROPOSOL stability was evaluated in 2 ICH conditions (25° C + 60% RH and 40° C + 75% RH) and under normal storage conditions and resulted perfectly stable for all considered parameters. To date it reached 60 months of retest date from date of manufacture
PROPOSOL properties can be exploited using the ingredient in products designed for different target groups.
The high solubility of PROPOSOL makes it suitable for aqueous formulations (syrups, sprays, mouthwash, ...) or immediately available solid oral forms (chewable tablets, sachets, orosoluble granules, ...).
For example, PROPOSOL can be formulated with synergistic ingredients to design products useful as adjuvants in situations of:
- early symptoms of pharyngitis, cold or flu
- reduced immmunitary defences
- to soothe inflammation of the mouth
- to soothe sunburns, rashes or minor injuries
